About The Typehouse
Based in Dunblane, Scotland, The Typehouse was founded by Alistair Warwick in 2008.
The Typehouse is an off-shoot of The Art of Music, founded in 1992 in order to provide high-quality music and text typesetting.
This work soon extended to include practical and reflective skills training for musicians.
Towards an ethical and environmental policy
- we aim to be ethical in all that we do
(The Art of Music is a member of Ethical Junction) - we endeavour to reduce, to reuse and to recycle wherever possible
- we use "green" electricity from renewable sources
- we are customers of the only UK high street bank with a customer-led ethical policy that prevents our money being used by companies that disrespect the environment or that sell arms to repressive regimes – indeed as a co-operative it supports enterprises that help the community
- we drink FairTrade tea and coffee – and eat FairTrade chocolate (donations always welcome!)
Some background
The Art of Music is in its 19th year of providing high-quality music typesetting.
During this time our business has expanded from its original purpose, and now provides:
- typesetting and design of publicity leaflets and stationery
- typesetting academic books
- website design and development
- practical music-making, including choral and orchestral conducting and organ playing
- publishing music: new music and new editions of older works (including 16th-century Scottish polyphony)

In order to serve our customers better, the three parts of our work is now represented by three identities:

Three distinct websites serve these new identities.
